EVANSVILLE,
Ind. - Jenny Weis' double in the fifth inning plated two insurance
runs as the Northern Kentucky University softball team secured a
4-1 victory over Southern Indiana in the second game of a twinbill
Friday.
After the Eagles
opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, Shatona Campbell's
RBI double drove in Sydney Doyle in the third to tie the game. Campbell
later scored in the inning on a fielding error, one of five Southern
Indiana misplays on the game, to give the Norse the lead.
NKU sophomore
Candace White (10-5) recorded four strikeouts and scattered seven
hits in the victory.
In the first
game, Lisa Anderson's home run in the second inning was enough to
beat the NKU as Southern Indiana took a 1-0 decision. Amanda Smith
(8-10) gave up six hits in the loss for NKU, striking out two along
the way.
The Norse collected
five hits but were unable to put a run across against USI's Amy
Harrison (9-5).
The split keeps
Northern Kentucky at .500 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
The Norse moved to 20-16 overall.
The Norse travel
to Edwardsville, Ill., to take on No. 13 Southern Illinois at Edwardsville
in a conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon.
