ROLLA, Mo.
- Amanda Smith hurled a four-hit shutout in the opener Sunday as
Northern Kentucky University posted a 6-0 win at Missouri-Rolla.
Smith, a freshman
pitcher from Canal Winchester, Ohio, finished with six strikeouts
and improved to 11-5. Smith also collected two hits at the plate.
Heather Cotner
and Sarah King each drove in two runs for NKU, which used a four-run
sixth inning to seal the victory. Katybeth Coode added two hits
for the Norse.
In the nightcap,
Missouri-Rolla earned a split with a 13-2 win over NKU. The Lady
Miners scored seven times in the bottom of the fourth inning - which
included a rain delay of one hour and 47 minutes - to build a 13-2
lead and upped their record to 24-4 overall, 7-3 in the Great Lakes
Valley Conference.
NKU is 21-11
overall, 5-5 in the GLVC. The Norse will play host to GLVC-leading
Southern Illinois at Edwardsville at noon Saturday.
