FINDLAY, Ohio - Krystal
Lewallen tossed her third no-hitter of the season Thursday as the
unbeaten Northern Kentucky University softball team posted a 3-0
win over Findlay in the first game of a doubleheader.
Lewallen (18-0) finished
with five strikeouts for NKU, which later completed the sweep with
a 4-0 win in the nightcap. The Norse improved to 34-0 with the non-conference
sweep, and NKU is now within six victories of tying the longest
winning streak in NCAA Division II history.
The longest win streak
in NCAA Division II history is 40, which was set in 1995 by Kennesaw
State. NKU’s current 34-game streak is the sixth best in Division
II history.
Stephanie Leimbach went
3-for-4 and scored twice in the second game to lead the Norse to
the 4-0 win. Sarah King provided the key hit with a two-run single
in the first inning, and that was all the support senior pitcher
Emily Breitholle would need.
Breitholle scattered
three hits and struck out nine batters to improve to 12-0 this season.
Ricki Rothbauer and Angie Lindeman each scored runs for the Norse.
NKU will play at Bellarmine
at noon Saturday. The Norse are ranked No. 2 nationally in the NCAA
Division II poll.
NKU is also ranked No.
1 in the latest NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region poll.
