HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky.
- The unbeaten Northern Kentucky University softball team is ranked
No. 1 nationally in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association’s
NCAA Division II poll, which was released Wednesday.
NKU, now 38-0, reclaimed
the No. 1 ranking from West Florida after spending the past three
weeks at No. 2. This is the second time this season NKU has been
ranked No. 1 in the poll.
On March 6, NKU moved
atop the national rankings for the first time in the program’s
history. Two weeks later, however, NKU dropped to second in the
poll behind West Florida despite the fact it was still unbeaten.
The Norse will attempt
to tie the NCAA Division II national record for longest winning
streak at 3 p.m. Thursday when the Norse play host to Indianapolis
in Highland Heights, Ky.
Kennesaw State won 40
straight games in 1995, which is the current longest winning streak
in NCAA Division II history.
