Krystal Lewallen

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University’s Krystal Lewallen has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference’s Pitcher of the Week in softball.

Lewallen, a junior from Crestwood, Ky., posted a 4-0 record and a 0.70 earned run average last week as the Norse extended their school-record win streak to 32 and improved their GLVC mark to 8-0. The 2004 All-American picked up two wins last Wednesday against regional foe West Liberty State, first tossing a one-hit shutout in a 4-0 victory.

She later came in relief and pitched another seven innings during a 12-inning 4-3 win. Lewallen also posted complete-game wins against Lewis and Wisconsin-Parkside over the weekend and is 17-0 this spring.

For the season, Lewallen leads the GLVC in strikeouts (172), innings pitched (121 2/3) and ERA (0.34). She is also holding opposing hitters to a .116 batting average this season and has 11 shutouts.

This marks the third time this spring Lewallen has earned the GLVC weekly honor. Lewallen is NKU’s all-time career leader with 64 victories.
