INDIANAPOLIS – Three Northern Kentucky University women’s
soccer players were honored for their accomplishments this season
by the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Junior Lauren Franzen was
named to the All-GLVC second team, while seniors Jayme Light and
Cara Alldred made the All-GLVC third team.
Franzen, a native of
Alexandria, Ky., leads the Norse with seven goals and five assists
on the season for 19 points. Perhaps her
brightest moment in GLVC play this year was against Bellarmine,
when she scored the game-winning goal against the Knights with
just 14 seconds remaining in double-overtime for a thrilling 2-1
victory. Against conference foes, Franzen totaled four goals and
four assists in 2007. Franzen was named GLVC Player of the Week
on Aug. 27 after recording her second career hat trick against
Concord.
Alldred, a co-captain of the 2007 squad, makes her second
straight appearance on the All-GLVC squad, as she was selected
to the second
team in 2006. The Batavia, Ohio, native scored game-winning goals
against Southern Indiana and Kentucky Wesleyan on senior weekend
to capture GLVC Player of the Week honors. Alldred enjoyed a four-game
GLVC-point scoring streak earlier in the season, totaling two goals
and three assists against Wisconsin-Parkside, Bellarmine, Missouri-Rolla
and Missouri-St. Louis. Alldred amassed four goals and seven assists
in 2007.
Light, making her second straight All-GLVC appearance after
a first-team selection last year, will go down as one of the most
talented scorers
in NKU history, ranking fifth all-time in goals with 31 on her
career. This season, Light scored six goals and added an assist
in an injury-shortened campaign. She has led the Norse both on
and off the field, and her presence was missed in the second half
of the regular season.
NKU (12-5 overall,
8-5 GLVC) enters Sunday’s
GLVC Tournament quarterfinal as the No. 4 seed and will host No.
5 Missouri-St.
Louis at Town & Country Sports Complex in Wilder. Kick-off
is scheduled for noon.
