INDIANAPOLIS – The Northern Kentucky University women’s
soccer team faced a tough test on the road Friday and dropped a
5-1 decision to Indianapolis in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
Caryn
Neiman opened the scoring in the 14th minute for the Greyhounds
on a through ball from Amanda Reese, pushing her shot just past
NKU goalkeeper Jenna Kramer for the early lead.
Reese factored
into the next goal with an assist to Ashley Seehase, who netted
her
ninth of the year in the 18th minute. Greyhound
defender Kate Donnelly pushed the ball up the field to Reese, who
found Seehase streaking up the left side. Seehase’s initial
shot was blocked, but Reese was there to pick up the rebound and
feed Seehase once again for the 2-0 advantage.
Indianapolis took
a 3-0 lead after Katie Krimmer picked up her own rebound off Kramer
and found the twine in the 22nd minute.
The three-goal advantage held through halftime.
Alayna Fontaine
took the net for the Norse in the second half, but little could
be done to stop the Greyhound offense, as Neiman
scored her second of the day in the 61st minute on a throw-in play.
NKU
got one back in the 65th after Kendall Day scored her fourth of
the season. Lauren Franzen’s initial shot glanced off
the left post, and Day was right there to clean up the rebound
to cut the deficit to three.
Indianapolis
got it back in the 83rd, however, after Monique Gamble’s
through ball found Jenny Dimitroff for her second of the season
and the 5-1 final score. The five goals allowed equal an all-time
high for the Northern Kentucky women. The last time the Norse allowed
five goals was Aug. 27, 2000, in a 5-3 defeat at Missouri-Rolla.
Jenna
Kramer took the loss for the Norse (9-3 overall, 5-3 GLVC), making
three saves. Fontaine had two saves in relief.
NKU will stay
on the road and face Saint Joseph’s on Sunday. BOX
