WILDER, Ky. – In
a battle for the top spot in the Great Lakes Valley Conference,
it was Becky Fleming who delivered the
knockout punch in the 61st minute for Quincy (10-2-1, 7-1-0 GLVC)
as the Lady Hawks defeated NKU by a score of 1-0.
With the scoring
at a virtual standstill, Liz Werkmeister sent a corner kick into
the box and Fleming settled the ball and placed
it just out of the reach of Norse goalie Jenna Kramer (6-2-0).
The goal was the eighth of the season for Fleming.
NKU managed to
outshoot the Hawks by a total of 13-10 but could not find the back
of the net. Quincy’s Toni Eye recorded
her sixth shutout of the season to improve to 8-1-1.
With the loss,
NKU (9-2-0, 5-2-0 GLVC) drops to fourth place in the conference
standings.
NKU will be back in
action next week as it travels to Indianapolis (Oct. 5) and St.
Joseph’s (Oct. 7). BOX
