WILDER, Ky. – A penalty kick goal by Jayme Light in the 84th minute gave the Northern Kentucky University women’s soccer team a 3-2 victory over Wisconsin-Parkside on Sunday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

Light’s fifth goal of the year came after freshman forward Kara Costello was fouled inside the 18-yard-box as she attempted to set up what she hoped to be the game-winning goal on the right side of the net. Costello was tied up with Parkside defender Megan Haberlein and taken down, and Light converted the penalty kick to win the game.

The 16th-ranked Norse started quickly as Ashley Warndorf opened the scoring in the second minute. Cara Alldred took a dribble from 35 yards out and sent a pass ahead to freshman Kendall Day. Day wound up for a shot from about 20 yards, but the ball came off the side of her foot and right to Warndorf, who flicked the ball to the right post for her second goal of the season.

Alldred scored in the 20th minute when she took a perfectly placed corner kick from Brandi Doss and headed the ball into the top right corner for a 2-0 advantage.
Wisconsin-Parkside scored in the 55th minute when Kelsey Johnson worked free inside the 18-yard-box and found Meredith Novak from point-blank range for her third goal of the season.

The Rangers drew even in the 67th minute when Novak took a free kick from 20 yards out. Norse goalkeeper Jenna Kramer made the initial save, but Caitlin Moon was there to put home the rebound and tie the score at 2-all.

Kramer earned her second victory of the season on the strength of two saves, while the NKU defense allowed 10 shots overall. Wisconsin-Parkside goalkeeper Erica Higuchi had four saves in the loss.
NKU (5-0-0, 2-0-0 GLVC) will continue a four-game homestand next weekend, hosting Ashland on Friday night and GLVC foe Bellarmine on Sunday afternoon.
