QUINCY, Ill.
- In less than a minute Friday night late in the second half, a
scoreless battle with No. 12 Quincy turned into a three-goal loss
for the Northern Kentucky University women's soccer team.
The 12th-ranked
Lady Hawks scored three goals in 59 seconds to defeat NKU, 3-0,
in a Great Lakes Valley Conference showdown. Quincy improved to
6-0 overall, 3-0 in the GLVC.
NKU is 3-2 overall, 1-2 in the GLVC.
It marked Quincy's
first win against NKU since 1997, which was the Norse's first year
of fielding women's soccer as a varsity program. The Lady Hawks
are now 2-9-1 all-time against NKU.
Michelle Peabody
scored the first Quincy goal at the 79:21 mark off a pass from Becky
Fleming. Rachel Poepsel found the back of the net with a 25-yard
shot 30 seconds later to make it 2-0, and, at the 80:20 mark, Jenna
Boyko capped the scoring with a header off a cross from Poepsel.
Quincy finished
with a 29-7 advantage in shot attempts. Amy Law and Lauren Franzen
each attempted three shots for the Norse. NKU freshman goalie Jenna
Kramer recorded 10 saves.
A year ago,
NKU edged Quincy in overtime, 2-1, at Wilder, Ky.
NKU will meet
Southern Illinois at Edwardsville at 1 p.m. Sunday in Edwardsville,
Ill.
