WILDER, Ky.
- The Northern Kentucky women's soccer squad had no problems Friday
night in dispatching Ashland, 4-1, in non-conference play.
The first half
was marked by solid defense by the Norse, who allowed just three
shots toward their net, and none on goal. Meanwhile, the Norse were
able to put five of their seven shots in the first half on target.
Senior forward
Amy Law got the Norse on the scoreboard in the 37th minute as she
got position in the 18-yard box. Sophomore Carla Schierloh sent
a corner kick across the box that junior Jeanna Goettelman sent
to her teammate in the middle, and Law's header glanced off Ashland
goalkeeper Becky Kasper and into the net.
The goal would
stand through the first 45 minutes. Junior Cara Alldred extended
the lead to 2-0 when an errant clearing attempt allowed her to get
a header shot on in the 49th minute.
Ashland's Christian
Schaefer had the answer just two minutes later, when she cleaned
up a lost ball in front of the Norse net to cut the margin to 2-1.
Junior Jayme
Light added the insurance goal in the 73rd minute, when she took
a corner kick from Goettelman and lobbed a shot from 25 yards out.
The ball just sailed under the crossbar for her sixth goal of the
season.
Freshman Brandi
Doss finished out the scoring, hitting a loose ball in the box in
the 75th minute for her second goal of the season. Sophomore goalkeeper
Kelly Bare kept her record perfect at 3-0, and she made
three saves in the effort.
Kasper had four
saves for Ashland in the loss.
