WILDER, Ky.
- Ashley Warndorf scored a goal and assisted two others as Northern
Kentucky University posted a 4-0 victory over Missouri-St. Louis
on Sunday at the Town & Country Sports Complex.
Jeanna Goettelman
and Jayme Light each scored goals and collected assists for NKU,
which won its third consecutive game. The Norse jumped out to a
2-0 lead in the opening 4:38 of the contest and were never threatened.
Goettelman began
the scoring just 3:21 into the game by knocking in a rebound shot
into the back of the net. Warndorf and Amy Law each were credited
with assists on the play.
Warndorf made
it 2-0 at the 4:38 mark when she finished off a crossing pass for
her second goal of the season. Light and Carla Schierloh assisted
the goal.
NKU extended
the lead to 3-0 less than three minutes into the second half when
Lauren Franzen netted her second goal of the season after a scramble
in the box off a corner kick. Light capped the scoring at the 56:10
by scoring on a breakaway that was assisted by Warndorf and Katie
Guinn.
It was the team-leading
fifth goal of the season for Light, a junior and a graduate of Colerain
High School.
Kelly Bare recorded
her second straight shutout and finished with five saves for the
Norse, who defeated Missouri-St. Louis for the 14th consecutive
time. The Riverwomen have not beaten NKU since the 1997 season,
and the Norse upped their lead in the all-time series to 14-1.
NKU improved
to 6-2 overall, 4-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Missouri-St.
Louis is 3-5-1 overall, 0-4 in the GLVC.
NKU will return
to action at 5 p.m. Friday when Ashland visits the Town & Country
Sports Complex for a non-conference game.
