WILDER, Ky.
- Battered by injuries, playing a goalie who was not even on the
roster a week ago and facing a team that is eventually going to
surprise an opponent, Northern Kentucky University found a way to
win Friday night.
Jayme Light
snapped a scoreless tie in the second half by netting her fourth
goal of the season to give NKU a 1-0 win over Missouri-Rolla at
the Town & Country Sports Complex. The Norse, who finished with
an 18-5 advantage in shot attempts, improved to 5-2 overall, 3-2
in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Missouri-Rolla
dropped to 0-7 overall, 0-2 in the GLVC.
Light's goal
came at the 61:04 mark and was assisted by both Amy Law and Cara
Alldred. NKU goalie Kelly Bare - who just joined the team this week
after starting keeper Jenna Kramer was injured - recorded the shutout
and had two saves.
Bare, a sophomore
from Cincinnati, Ohio, played for NKU last season and saw action
in 10 games. She logged all 90 minutes Friday night and picked up
her first career shutout.
The Norse play
host to Missouri-St. Louis at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
