Light celebrates her goal vs. Drury |
WILDER, Ky.
- Jayme Light provided the scoring early in the game for Northern
Kentucky University, and the Norse survived a barrage of shots by
Drury in the second half to hold on for a 1-0 victory Sunday afternoon
at the Town & Country Sports Complex.
NKU wasted no
time in scoring the only goal of the contest when Light lobbed a
shot from 22 yards that eluded Drury goalie Barri Bulla and just
made its way under the crossbar for a 1-0 lead at the 7:49 mark.
Ashley Warndorf and Cara Alldred were credited with assists on the
play.
It was the ninth
goal of the season for Light, a junior and a graduate of Colerain
High School.
In the second
half, Drury constantly attacked the NKU defense and held a 12-2
advantage in shots during the final 45 minutes. Several Drury shots
were high or wide, and Norse goalie Kelly Bare stopped two shots
in the second half.
For the game,
Bare had five saves. Drury finished with an 18-8 edge in shots,
and both teams had three corner kicks.
NKU improved
to 10-4 overall, 7-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Drury
