WILDER, Ky.
- Senior Night was special for the Northern Kentucky University
women's soccer team, which closed out the regular season with a
dominating 6-2 victory over Findlay
Wednesday night.
Lauren Franzen
opened up scoring two minutes into the game by taking a ball away
from the Findlay defense in the 18-yard box and knocking home her
third of the season. NKU's two seniors took over just two minutes
later as Shirley Ernst sent a pass up to Amy Law, who buried the
shot on a two-on-none breakaway to make it 2-0.
Jayme Light
scored her 12th goal of the season at the 5:34 mark by taking a
crossing pass from Franzen and sending the shot to the far corner
to give NKU a 3-0 lead.
Karlyn Long
got the Oilers on the board in the 37th minute with her first of
the year. Erin Roberts' corner kick came across the box for Christina
Smith, whose initial shot was saved by a waiting Kelly Bare.
Long was right
there for the rebound and cut NKU's lead to 3-1.
Ernst made it
4-1 in the 41st minute on a quick reaction play. Findlay goalkeeper
Tessa Overman misplayed a ball into the box, dropping it between
her legs. Ernst was right there to bury the free shot for her second
marker of the season.
Maria Chilbert
had the answer just two minutes later with a very similar situation,
knocking in a loose ball in the 18-yard box for her first of the
year.
Light and Brandi
Doss would add goals in the second half to seal the win for the
Norse, who improved to 13-4-0 on the year. Bare went relatively
unchallenged in the game, making just one save in the victory. Overman
had eight saves for Findlay (2-11).
The Norse travel
to Indianapolis on Sunday for the quarterfinals of the Great Lakes
Valley Conference Tournament. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
