EVANSVILLE,
Ind. - Jeanna Goettelman hooked in a corner kick in the second half
Friday night to lift Northern Kentucky University to a 1-0 win over
Southern Indiana.
Goettelman's
perfectly-placed kick, taken from the left corner, sailed past Southern
Indiana goalie Jami Martin into the far corner of the net at the
52:28 mark. It was the third goal of the season for Goettelman.
NKU goalie Kelly
Bare recorded the shutout and finished with six saves as the Norse
defeated Southern Indiana for the seventh consecutive time. NKU
now leads the all-time series with Southern Indiana by a 9-3 margin.
NKU - which
extended its winning streak to three - improved to 11-4 overall,
8-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The victory also kept
NKU in the running to possibly host a first-round game in the upcoming
GLVC Tournament, which begins Oct. 22 at campus sites.
The top four
teams in the GLVC standings will earn first-round home games. NKU
is currently tied for fifth place with Indianapolis, but the Greyhounds
own a head-to-head tiebreaker with the Norse.
Quincy has wrapped
up the No. 1 seed in the GLVC with an 11-2 record. Bellarmine is
currently in second place, followed by Wisconsin-Parkside and Southern
Illinois at Edwardsville. NKU owns head-to-head tiebreakers with
both SIUE and Bellarmine.
NKU plays at
Kentucky Wesleyan at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in its final regular-season
GLVC game. The Norse will close out their home season Wednesday
night against Findlay at the Town & Country Sports Complex in
Wilder, Ky.
