ATHENS, W. Va.
- Brandi Doss' first collegiate goal made Northern Kentucky University
a winner in its season opener Friday afternoon.
Doss, a freshman
and a graduate of Harrison High School, scored in the 65th minute
as NKU held off Concord (W. Va.), 1-0. The play was set up by senior
Amy Law, whose defensive pressure in the Lions backfield disrupted
play and caused a loose ball.
Doss chased
down the ball and netted her first goal to give NKU a 1-0 lead.
The Norse defense made the goal stand, and freshman goalie Jenna
Kramer notched the shutout and had three saves in her first college
game.
NKU is ranked
No. 11 nationally in the preseason NCAA Division II poll. The Norse
are also favored to win the Great Lakes Valley Conference championship.
NKU will conclude
its road trip Sunday with a game against Davis & Elkins.
