WILDER, Ky.
- Kristen Votapek scored a goal and added two assists Sunday as
the Northern Kentucky University women’s soccer team defeated
Southern Indiana, 3-0, at the Town & Country Sports Complex.
Amy Law and
Jayme Light also scored goals for NKU, ranked 24th nationally in
this week’s Division II poll. The Norse (3-1 overall, 2-0
Great Lakes Valley Conference) finished with a 21-11 advantage in
shot attempts and controlled field position throughout the game.
Law gave NKU
a 1-0 lead 16 minutes into the contest when she knocked a header
past Southern Indiana goalie Meagan Homolla into the back of the
net. Law’s goal was assisted by Votapek, who sent a corner
kick into the box on the play.
Light made
it 2-0 in the 57th minute by sending a header past Homolla. Votapek
sealed the victory at the 65:43 mark with a breakaway goal that
was assisted by Law and Alex Armstrong.
Armstrong
recorded two assists as NKU defeated Southern Indiana (1-4, 0-2
GLVC) for the sixth consecutive time. The Norse lead the all-time
series with Southern Indiana by an 8-3 margin.
Sam Westerling
and Kelly Bare combined for the shutout and six saves. NKU held
an 18-3 advantage in corner kicks.
NKU will play
a non-conference match at Ashland at 4 p.m. Tuesday. The Norse will
resume GLVC play Friday with a 6 p.m. contest at Drury, which is
in its first year as a member of the GLVC.
