Votapek leads NKU in scoring
Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University women’s soccer team
has been selected as the No. 1 seed for the NCAA Division II Great
Lakes Region Tournament, and the Norse will play host to that event
this Friday and Sunday at the Town & Country Sports Complex
in Wilder, Ky.
NKU is 18-2-0
overall and owns a 14-game winning streak going into Friday’s
first-round contest against No. 4 seed Wheeling Jesuit (20-3-0).
The Norse will play Wheeling Jesuit at 5 p.m. Friday, followed by
a 7:30 p.m. game between No. 2 seed Grand Valley State (17-2-0)
and No. 3 seed Southern Illinois at Edwardsville (17-5-0).
game is set for noon Sunday. The winner of the Great Lakes Region
will advance to the NCAA Division II national quarterfinals and
play a road game against the winner of the Central Region Nov. 19
the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament championship this past
Sunday with a 2-0 win over SIUE. Wheeling Jesuit is the champion
of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while
Grand Valley State won the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
current 14-game winning streak, NKU has allowed just six goals and
posted eight shutouts. The Norse have outscored the opposition by
a 73-12 margin this season.
