Five Norse standouts named All-Great Lakes Region

Kristen Votapek

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Five Northern Kentucky University women’s soccer players have been named All-Great Lakes Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Three Norse seniors - Kristen Votapek, Katie Hanck and Amy Martini - were named to the first team. NKU junior Amy Law also was selected to the first team, while Norse freshman Alex Armstrong earned second team All-Region honors.

Votapek, a forward and a graduate of Amelia High School, was named Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year this fall. She led the GLVC in scoring with 16 goals and 18 assists. This is the second straight year Votapek has been named to the All-Great Lakes Region first team by the NSCAA.

Hanck, a sweeper and a graduate of Fairfield High School, anchored a Norse defense that held opponents to just 14 goals the entire season. Hanck, who was also named first team All-Region two years ago, helped NKU win the GLVC championship and finish with a 19-3 record this season.

Martini, a midfielder/defender and a graduate of Oak Hills High School, scored two goals and had five assists as a senior. She also earned second team All-Region honors last season.

Law, a midfielder and a graduate of Glen Este High School, scored 12 goals and added seven assists this fall. Armstrong, an Anderson High School graduate who was named the GLVC Freshman of the Year this season, finished with 11 goals and seven assists this fall.
