HIGHLAND HEIGHTS,
Ky. - Five Northern Kentucky University women’s soccer players
have been named All-Great Lakes Region by the National Soccer Coaches
Association of America.
Three Norse
seniors - Kristen Votapek, Katie Hanck and Amy Martini - were named
to the first team. NKU junior Amy Law also was selected to the first
team, while Norse freshman Alex Armstrong earned second team All-Region
honors.
Votapek, a
forward and a graduate of Amelia High School, was named Great Lakes
Valley Conference Player of the Year this fall. She led the GLVC
in scoring with 16 goals and 18 assists. This is the second straight
year Votapek has been named to the All-Great Lakes Region first
team by the NSCAA.
Hanck, a sweeper
and a graduate of Fairfield High School, anchored a Norse defense
that held opponents to just 14 goals the entire season. Hanck, who
was also named first team All-Region two years ago, helped NKU win
the GLVC championship and finish with a 19-3 record this season.
Martini, a
midfielder/defender and a graduate of Oak Hills High School, scored
two goals and had five assists as a senior. She also earned second
team All-Region honors last season.
Law, a midfielder
and a graduate of Glen Este High School, scored 12 goals and added
seven assists this fall. Armstrong, an Anderson High School graduate
who was named the GLVC Freshman of the Year this season, finished
with 11 goals and seven assists this fall.
