NKU SOCCER ADDS NINE RECRUITS FOR 2005

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University women’s soccer head coach Bob Sheehan has announced that the following individuals have signed national letters of intent to attend NKU next fall and play soccer for the Norse. They are:

•Alex Armstrong, a 5-foot-9 defender from Anderson High School in Cincinnati. Armstrong was named second team All-Fort Valley Ancient Conference as a senior and second team as a junior. Anderson won the FAVC in Armstrong’s sophomore season.

•Kelly Bare, a 5-foot-7 goalkeeper from Colerain High School in Cincinnati. Bare’s 26 career shutouts broke Colerain’s school record. Bare was named second team All-Greater Miami Conference and earned GMC Athlete of the Week honors.

•Lindsay Brewer, a 5-foot-6 defender from Anderson High School. Brewer earned first team All-FAVC honors as a senior and was also named Anderson’s Defensive Player of the Year.

•Traci Elliott, a 5-foot-10 forward from Brookville (Ohio) High School. Elliott earned Southwestern Buckeye League Player of the Year honors last season after scoring 37 goals and adding eight assists. She scored 85 career goals at Brookville and also had 38 assists.

•Lauren Franzen, a 5-foot-1 forward from Campbell County High School. Franzen scored 15 goals as a senior and was ranked fifth in Northern Kentucky for scoring points. Franzen earned four letters in soccer and one letter in softball and track.

•Emily Haubner, a 5-foot-5 defender from McAuley High School in Cincinnati. Haubner received second team All-Girls’ Greater Cincinnati League honors as a senior, and she earned two letters in soccer. Haubner helped lead McAuley to the district finals last season.

•Carla Schierloh, a 5-foot-4 midfielder/forward from Northwest High School. Schierloh was named first team FAVC as a sophomore and junior, first team All-City as a senior and the OSWCA All-Star game MVP. Schierloh, a Wendy’s High School Heisman nominee and four-year letterwinner, helped the Knights win the FAVC championship in 2001.

•Katie Walton, a 5-foot-3 forward from Lebanon High School. Walton received All-Mid-Miami League, All-Dayton Area and The Western Star’s first-team honors three times along with being the Warriors’ Most Valuable Offensive Player twice. Walton earned four letters in soccer and cheerleading.

•Ashley Warndorf, a 5-foot-5 forward from Oak Hills High School in Cincinnati. Warndorf was named All-City and first team All-GMC and helped the Highlanders advance to the district semifinals twice. Warndorf earned three letters in soccer along with four letters in track.

Those recruits will join an NKU team that finished with a 15-5-1 overall record and 9-1 mark in the Great Lakes Valley Conference in 2004. The Norse also advanced to the GLVC Tournament final and the NCAA Great Lakes Regional last season.
