ALLENDALE, Mich. - Northern
Kentucky University’s Kim Keyer-Scott shot a 156 (+12) Monday
as the Norse women’s golf team took a five-stroke lead after
the first 36 holes of the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament.
Keyer-Scott fired rounds
of 78-78 at the par-72 Meadows Golf Course to finish the first day
of the 54-hole tournament atop the leader board. The
Norse totaled 641 (+35) and own a five-stroke advantage over both
Grand Valley State (646) and Ferris State (646) going into Tuesday’s
final 18 holes.
NKU’s Bianca Hutton
finished the first round at 159 and is tied with Casey McKinnon
of Ferris State and Melissa Sneller of Grand Valley State for second
place.
Alicia Lawrence of NKU
finished the first day tied for eighth place with a score of 161,
while teammate Kelsey Gauthier posted a score of 165 (12th place).
Michelle Bellish of
NKU shot 168 and is in 17th place in the individual competition.
The top two teams in
the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament will advance to the
national finals, which will be held May 11-14 at Albuquerque, N.M.
A year ago, NKU placed third at the East Region.
Keyer-Scott tied for
the medal at the event last spring and advanced to the national
finals as an individual.
