Matt
Schmidt is in his fourth season as the top assistant coach for the
women’s basketball program at Northern Kentucky University.
Schmidt assists in all areas of coaching, scouting and recruiting
for the Norse.
During Schmidt’s
three years at NKU, the Norse have posted a 64-25 record and earned
two berths in the NCAA Division II Tournament. A year ago, NKU posted
a 21-8 record and earned a berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament.
Two years ago,
Schmidt helped NKU post a 27-5 record and win the Great Lakes Valley
Conference Tournament championship. The Norse also captured the
GLVC East Division title that season. NKU advanced to the NCAA Division
II Tournament and defeated Michigan Tech in the first round. The
Norse also finished with a No. 19 national ranking in the Division
II poll in 2005-06.
Schmidt, a native
of Johnstown, Pa., spent three seasons as an assistant coach at
the University of Findlay. He was also an assistant coach at both
West Virginia University and the University of Maryland-Baltimore
County prior to taking the position at Findlay.
Schmidt played
basketball at West Liberty (W. Va.) State College, where he graduated
in 1996 with a degree in health, P.E. and safety education. Schmidt
earned his master’s degree in physical education from West
Virginia University in 2000.
