- Amanda Gibson and Jadee Rooney each scored 14 points to lead the
Wisconsin-Parkside women’s basketball team to a 60-50 upset
over Northern Kentucky University on Saturday.
Wisconsin-Parkside
held NKU to just 35.4 percent shooting from the field and was 22-for-26
from the free-throw line to seal the win. NKU entered the game ranked
No. 2 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll, but the Norse fell
behind by 13 points in the first half and never recovered.
Cassie Brannen
led NKU (17-2 overall, 9-2 Great Lakes Valley Conference) with 16
points. Jessie Slack added 14 points for the Norse, who are now
tied with Wisconsin-Parkside (13-7, 9-2 GLVC) for first place in
the GLVC East Division. Slack, a senior guard from Mt. Perry, Ohio,
has now scored in double figures in 24 consecutive games dating
back to last season.
NKU has lost
four of its last five games in DeSimone Gymnasium against Wisconsin-Parkside.
The Norse’s only win during that period came last season,
when NKU posted a 69-54 victory against the Rangers.
Karen Brackman
scored eight points and dished out four assists for NKU, which will
play host to Saint Joseph’s at 5:30 p.m. this Thursday.
