- Northern Kentucky University’s Jessie Slack has been named
Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week in women’s
basketball, the league office announced Monday.
Slack, a senior
guard from Mt. Perry, Ohio, averaged 18.5 points, 10.0 rebounds,
3.5 steals and 2.0 assists per game last week as unbeaten NKU (4-0)
won two road contests. She began the week by scoring 17 points and
grabbing nine rebounds as NKU rallied for a 56-54 victory at Indianapolis
her week by recording a double-double (20 points, 11 rebounds) during
a 61-48 win at Southern Illinois at Edwardsville on Saturday. The
5-foot-10 guard also sparked an 8-1 run in the second half with
a pair of baskets that helped NKU pull away from the Cougars.
the GLVC in scoring (20.5 points per game) and 3-point shooting
(.625). She also ranks fourth in the GLVC in rebounding (8.3 rpg)
and is seventh in steals (2.25 spg).

her career at East Carolina and scored 438 points in two seasons.
The Sheridan High School graduate has added another 536 points while
NKU, which is
ranked No. 1 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll, returns home
to meet NAIA power Georgetown (Ky.) Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Norse
also play host to the Travel America Classic next Friday and Saturday
in The Bank of Kentucky Center.
NKU takes on
North Carolina-Pembroke at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The Norse conclude
the two-day event Saturday by playing Carson-Newman at 7:30 p.m.
