- Northern Kentucky University’s Cassie Brannen has been selected
as the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week in women’s
basketball, the league office announced Monday.
Brannen, a graduate of Mount Notre Dame High School in Cincinnati,
averaged 15.3 points, 7.7 rebounds and 5.7 blocked shots per game
as unbeaten NKU (7-0) won three times last week. She also shot 57.7
percent from the field and was 15-for-18 (.833) from the free-throw
She began the week by scoring 16 points during a 67-50 win against
Georgetown (Ky.). In that game, Brannen also became the 25th member
of NKU’s 1,000-point club when she made a 10-foot jumper late
in the first half.
Brannen nearly recorded a triple-double Friday night in the Travel
America Classic when she finished with 18 points, 11 rebounds and
nine blocked shots during a 62-51 win against North Carolina-Pembroke.
The 6-foot-1 post player capped her week Saturday with 12 points
and five blocked shots as No. 1 NKU knocked off No. 22 Carson-Newman,
Brannen also earned all-tournament honors for her performance in
the Travel America Classic. She leads the GLVC in blocked shots
at 3.3 bpg.
NKU returns to action Dec. 22 with a road game at West Virginia
