ALLENDALE, Mich. - Kim Wyngaard scored 13 of her game-high 20 points in the second half as Grand Valley State rallied for a 66-55 win over Northern Kentucky University on Saturday.

Grand Valley State (8-4) converted 20 of 22 free throws in the second half and rallied from a 40-31 deficit with 12:28 left in the game. The Lakers used a 12-1 run to take a 43-41 lead on Erin Cyplik’s conventional three-point play with 9:32 remaining.

After NKU (8-2) tied the score at 43-all on Angela Healy’s jumper, Grand Valley State went on a 11-3 run to take a 54-46 advantage and coasted to the win. It marked the third straight year the Lakers have knocked off the Norse, who entered Saturday ranked No. 11 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll.

Healy and Cassie Brannen each scored 11 points to lead NKU, which shot just 29.4 percent from the field in the second half and 37.5 percent for the game. The Norse started quickly and held a 20-7 lead on Nicole Chiodi’s basket with 9:19 remaining in the first half.

Grand Valley State rallied and cut the NKU lead to 30-22 at halftime. In the second half, the Lakers buried four shots from 3-point range and took advantage of NKU’s 3-for-10 performance from the free-throw line. The Norse also finished 3-for-21 from 3-point range.

The Lakers made only 32.7 percent of their shots from the field for the game but won the rebounding battle by a 46-37 count. Cyplik scored 13 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds for Grand Valley State.

Healy, a senior center from Highlands High School, upped her career point total to 925. She also grabbed eight rebounds and blocked two shots. Chiodi added eight points, eight rebounds and five assists for NKU, which had its six-game winning streak snapped.

NKU resumes Great Lakes Valley Conference play Thursday, when Rockhurst visits Regents Hall for a 5:30 p.m. game. The Norse also play host to Drury next Saturday at 1 p.m.
