INDIANAPOLIS
- Northern Kentucky University's Cassie Brannen has been named the
Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week for leading her
team to a sweep of road games at Drury and Rockhurst this past weekend.
Brannen, a graduate
of Mount Notre Dame High School in Cincinnati, averaged 11.5 points
and 7.0 rebounds in the two victories. She began the week by scoring
11 points and blocking four shots as NKU posted a 52-49 victory
at Drury.
Brannen also
grabbed seven rebounds in that game as NKU became the first GLVC
team to knock off Drury in Weiser Gym. Brannen used 5-for-9 shooting
from the field to key the Norse's victory.
On Saturday,
the 6-foot-1 sophomore netted 12 points in just 20 minutes of action
as NKU extended its winning streak to eight with a 93-41 victory
at Rockhurst. Brannen also finished with seven rebounds and three
assists.
For the week,
Brannen shot 60 percent from the field and led an NKU defense that
limited its two opponents to an average of 45.0 points per game.
The Norse held Rockhurst to just 25.9 percent shooting from the
field on Saturday.
NKU will attempt
to snap Lewis’ 13-game winning streak this Thursday at 5:30
p.m. when the GLVC East-leading Flyers visit Regents Hall. Earlier
this season, Lewis defeated NKU at Romeoville, Ill.
Lewis is ranked
No. 7 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll and No. 1 in the Great
Lakes Region poll. The Norse are ninth in the Great Lakes Region
poll but figure to move up when the new rankings are released Wednesday.
