- Northern Kentucky University’s Brittany Winner has been
named Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week, the league
office announced Monday.
Winner, a senior
forward from Minster, Ohio, averaged 19.5 points per game and shot
66.7 percent from the field. She also made 87.5 percent of her 3-point
attempts as the Norse swept key GLVC East Division games against
Lewis and Wisconsin-Parkside.
Winner capped
the week on Saturday by going the length of the court in 4.2 seconds
and hitting a shot at the buzzer to give the Norse a 60-58 win over
Wisconsin-Parkside. In that victory, she scored 17 points and was
perfect (3-for-3) from 3-point range as NKU won its 10th straight
game, the longest current streak in the Great Lakes Region.
Winner began
the week by scoring 22 points during a 73-61 victory over No. 7
Lewis last Thursday. In that win, she was 8-for-11 from the field,
dished out four assists and was 4-for-5 from 3-point range. That
victory snapped Lewis' 13-game winning streak.
Winner leads
NKU in scoring at 11.6 points per game and in steals with 31. She
also tops the team in 3-pointers made (28) and averages 4.2 rebounds
per game.
NKU is 17-5
overall, 11-4 in the GLVC. The Norse play host to Bellarmine at
5:30 p.m. Tuesday in Regents Hall. NKU will close out its home season
Thursday at 5:30 p.m. when Kentucky Wesleyan visits Regents Hall.
