HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern
Kentucky University women’s basketball head coach Nancy Winstel
announced Wednesday that Travece Turner has joined the Norse as
an assistant coach.
Turner is a 2003 graduate
of Morehead State and was a standout basketball player for the Lady
Eagles for three seasons. After spending her freshman year at the
University of Richmond, Turner transferred to Morehead State and
became one of the Ohio Valley Conference’s top players.
As a senior, Turner
averaged 15.1 points and 3.1 rebounds to earn first team All-OVC
honors. As a junior she was named second team All-OVC.
Turner later became
the first Morehead State student-athlete to be selected as the state
of Kentucky’s winner of the NCAA Woman of the Year Award.
She was also a 2003 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar and a member
of the 2003 Verizon Regional All-Academic Team.
In addition, Turner
was named Morehead State’s outstanding student in the department
of communications and Theatre in 2003.
“We are excited
to have Travece join our staff because she excelled as a student
in the classroom and on the court, and she knows what it takes to
be successful at both,” Winstel said.
Turner, who attended
Holmes High School before transferring to Madison Central, was named
to the Kentucky All-Star Team after her senior year in 1998. She
finished her prep career having scored more than 2,000 points.
