Connie Myers

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University women’s basketball team will play host to Lewis University at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in Regents Hall.

NKU is 1-5 overall and 1-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Lewis is 4-3 overall, 3-1 in the GLVC.

NKU will also meet Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville at 1 p.m. Saturday in Regents Hall.

The Norse snapped a season-opening five-game losing streak last Saturday with an 83-70 win at Saint Joseph’s. NKU had lost seven consecutive games dating back to last season before that victory.

Senior guard Nikki Perkins scored 20 points and dished out three assists to lead NKU past Saint Joseph’s. Karyn Creager added 18 points for the Norse, who trailed by 10 (29-19) late in the first half.

Connie Myers added 17 points and 12 rebounds for NKU, which won the rebounding battle by a 39-29 margin. The Norse, who have not lost to Saint Joseph’s since the 1993-94 season, also converted 31 of 40 free throws.

NKU has beaten Saint Joseph’s 22 consecutive times.

MYERS NEARS 1,000 CAREER POINTS: NKU senior forward Connie Myers enters Thursday’s game with 925 career points. She leads NKU in scoring at 16.3 points per game.

THE LAST TIME AGAINST LEWIS: On Feb. 14, 2004, Jessica Brock scored a career-high 20 points and grabbed a career-best 18 rebounds as NKU defeated Lewis, 65-58, in Regents Hall.

Brock also connected on four three-point field goals. She was 5-for-8 from the field and made all six of her free throw attempts.

The Norse limited Lewis to just 33.3 percent from the field and avenged an early-season loss to the Flyers at Romeoville, Ill. NKU also used 21-of-23 shooting from the free throw line to hold off Lewis.

NKU led by as many as 17 points in the first half and took a 34-18 advantage at the break. Lewis, however, used an 8-0 run to start the second half and closed within 34-26 when Bryanne Callahan hit a three-pointer.

Callahan’s basket with 9:05 remaining cut NKU's lead to 42-36, but Karmen Graham and Brock each hit three-pointers to extend the Norse’s advantage to 48-39.

Brittany Diener’s layup with 2:23 left on the clock brought Lewis within six points at 58-52, but Brock sealed the victory for NKU by draining a three-pointer at the 1:38 mark that gave the Norse a 61-52
advantage.

Karmen Graham added 11 points and nine rebounds for NKU, which won the rebounding battle by a 50-26 margin.

NKU leads the all-time series with Lewis, 34-4.

THE LAST TIME AGAINST SIUE: On Feb. 12, 2004, Connie Myers scored 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as NKU rallied for a 63-56 win over SIUE in Regents Hall.

Myers scored 17 points in the second half as NKU fought back from a 36-30 deficit with 14:58 left in the game. She keyed a 28-10 Norse run with 12 points as NKU built a 58-46 lead with 3:38 remaining in the game.

Myers hit 8-of-13 shots from the field, and she was 9-for-11 from the free throw line.

Karmen Graham and Sharell Snardon each finished with 10 points for NKU. The Norse shot 52 percent from the field in the second half to snap a two-game losing streak.
