Head Coach Nancy Winstel
On her team's performance...
I thought we got off to a slow start. I thought we played
well towards the end of the first half, and I thought we
played well in the second half. I was able to play a lot of
my kids. I was able to rest some of my starters - to keep people
like Elizabeth (Burrows) and Connie (Myers) on the bench a
little.
I thought we were able to do a lot of things and to get
some confidence in some players who have been struggling
a little bit. I thought we got some quality minutes. I thought
Angela (Healy) really played well. Quality minutes from Nicole
Chiodi; quality minutes from Sarah (Woods); quality minutes
from Karyn (Creager). We got quality minutes from everybody,
really. I think it's important to have games like that. We
haven't
really had a game like that. Every game has been a nail biter.
Every game has been tough. Some of our younger players
have not been able to play through their mistakes, so this
was one of those nights where we could go back, regroup, and
not have to come out because it's a one possession game. You
do need to have games like that sometimes.
On grabbing 49 rebounds...
I think our team is playing much better. We've come a
long way. We should be proud of the fact that when we
were 0-5 we didn't pack it in. We didn't point fingers. We
looked at ways to get better. And I think that now, the way
we're playing, is coming from that. A good thing has come from
adversity, and I think that they have stuck together. They've
tried to
do what we've asked them to do. Ten years from now, these
kids are going to look back on this season and they're
going to say, 'We started that season 0-5, and look what happened.'
And who knows how that's going to end, but it's pretty exciting.
We'll see.
