KENTUCKY WESLEYAN DEFEATS NKU, 63-48
Stewart scores 14 points to send Norse to their third straight loss

OWENSBORO, Ky. - Lauren Stewart scored 14 points and tallied five rebounds as Kentucky Wesleyan College defeated Northern Kentucky University, 63-48, Friday night at the Owensboro Sportscenter.

Mary Czarnecki added 12 points and six rebounds for the Panthers, who beat the Norse for only the fourth time in 45 tries. NKU had defeated Kentucky Wesleyan 13 consecutive times before Friday’s setback.

It marked Kentucky Wesleyan’s first victory against NKU since Jan. 31, 1998, when the Panthers pulled out a 74-72 overtime win against the Norse in Owensboro, Ky.

The Panthers defense held NKU to 27.1 percent shooting for the game to improve to 3-1, 1-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Norse (0-3, 0-1 GLVC) lost their third straight game.

Brittany Winner and Karyn Creager both scored 11 points to lead the Norse.

Kentucky Wesleyan shot 95.2 percent from the free throw line for the game to coast to the victory.

The Norse will conclude the two-game GLVC road trip with a 1 p.m. contest at Bellarmine on Sunday.
