HILTON
HEAD, S.C. – The Northern Kentucky University women’s
tennis team is now a perfect 4-for-4 on their Spring Break trip
after defeating Dickinson College (Pa.) 6-3 on Thursday.
The Norse
(8-4), who are now ranked 42nd in nation and 4th in the Midwest
Region by Intercollegiate Tennis Association, used a blowout
each from Kristen Sunday and Stephanie Isaacs in their respective
matches to set the tone for the day.
Sunday, playing in the first
singles flight, defeated Joelle Nitzberg (6-0, 6-0) while Isaacs
downed Leigh Oczkowski (6-1, 6-0) to up
her second flight record to 8-2 (9-3 overall) on the season.
Dickinson,
however, countered by taking the points from Sarah Woodward defeating
Michelle Schirmann (7-5, 6-4) and Hana Thomson defeating
Jenny Hand (6-3, 6-2) in the third and fourth flights respectively.
Jillian
Sturgeon and Maggie Koetter ended the singles portion of the
match with by sweeping their opponets in straight sets.
Sturgeon
(9-3), who has played in the fifth flight all season, cruised
by Kay Hood (6-3, 6-3) while Koetter upped her sixth flight
and overall record to 11-1 with a 6-0, 6-4 whitewashing of Brittany
Zoll.
The Red Devils (3-3) were able to take the top flight singles
point as the duo of Nitzberg and Woodward downed Isaacs and Sturgeon
8-6.
NKU wrapped up the victory as the tandems of Schirmann/Sunday
and Hand/Ivana Misic took down their counterparts 8-4 each.
The Norse
will be back in action on Friday, March 20, as they travel to Rensselaer,
Ind., to take on Saint Joseph’s College in
the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener for both squads. |
