HILTON HEAD, S.C. –A change of scenery was all it took for the Northern Kentucky University men’s tennis team to break a four match losing streak and to pick up its first win of the spring.

The Norse, who are on their annual Spring Break trip, dominated Malone College (2-2) on their way to a 8-1 victory.

NKU (3-4) took five singles matches and all three doubles matches for their eight points.

Of the five singles matches the Norse combined to win; only one went to a super tiebreak set. Ignacio Ortiz defeated David Cairns 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-3) in the No. 1 singles flight.

Ortiz would later team with Fritz Dlabik to down the Pioneer tandem of Cairns and Kyle Bowers 8-4 in the top doubles flight.

Malone’s only point came after Bowers defeated Jason Arenstein 6-1, 6-2 in the second singles flight.

Dlabik, Will Knoll, Ricardo Weaver, and Jason Kramer were all never challenged in their singles matches as each won in straight sets.

The team of Arenstein and Felipe Rossetti were nearly nipped by the Pioneer counterparts Nathaniel Rodd and Tim Frazier 9-7 while the duo of Knoll and Tyler Fraser easily defeated their opponents.

The Norse will be back in action March 8 as they take on fellow Kentucky school Transylvania University. First serve is set for noon.
