CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Northern Kentucky University women's tennis
team got back on the winning track in its first home match of the
season by downing Centre, 8-1.
Stephanie Isaacs and Jenny Hand started
things off with a bang by taking an 8-0 victory over Centre's
Whitney Fraley and Karolyn Hays. Michelle Schirmann and Kristen
Sunday followed up with an 8-4 victory in the No. 2 flight, while
Maggie Koetter and Jillian Sturgeon took their doubles match to
a 7-2 tiebreak victory over Sarah Swauger and Mellissa Springer.
Koetter
maintained her spotless record on the season with a 6-2, 7-6
(7-2) win over Katy Bender in the No. 6 singles flight. Only Schirmann
faltered in the singles competition, falling to Hays in a 10-7
super tiebreaker in the No. 3 flight.
The match moved NKU to 3-1
on the season, while Centre fell to 1-1.
The Norse return to Dayton
on Feb. 20 to face the Flyers in the UD Classic. Dayton defeated
NKU, 5-2, on Wednesday to open spring play for the Norse. |
