WILDER, Ky. – For the second year in a row, the Northern
Kentucky University men’s soccer team has equaled its highest
win total ever as the Norse improved to 16-0 Sunday afternoon with
a 4-0 victory over Kentucky Wesleyan.
It took just one shot for
the Norse to get on the board, as Tony Ray found a seam and fed
Tony Capurro. Capurro and Braden Bishop
created a two-on-one situation from 20 yards out, and Capurro passed
across to the sophomore for his 10th goal of the season just three
minutes into the contest.
It was almost an hour of game time before
the Norse tickled the twine again, with Chad Cook sending a long
diagonal pass to Steven
Beattie on the left side just inside the touch line. Beattie, with
a defender on his hip, floated a lofting ball towards the goal
from about 40 yards
out. The ball snuck just underneath the crossbar and out of the
reach of Panther goalkeeper Andrew Minton for his seventh goal
of the year.
Chris Thompson added his second goal of the season,
scoring off a pass from Bishop in the 82nd minute, while Bishop
got his second
goal of the game off a corner kick play from Jason Larkin to cap
the scoring.
Andy Ortman
made one save in the victory for the Norse. Jeremy Curington
played 17 minutes of relief in net for NKU, which
outshot
the Panthers by a 24-2 margin.
NKU moved to
11-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and secured a home
game in
the quarterfinal round
of the conference tournament.
The game will be hosted at the Town & Country Sports Complex
on Oct. 28.
Before that, however, the Norse must go on the road
for their final two games of the season, as they travel to Rockhurst
on Friday
before ending the season in Springfield, Mo., against Drury on
Sunday. BOX SCORE
