WILDER, Ky. - For the second time in 2007, it took two overtimes
for the Northern Kentucky University men's soccer team to edge
out a victory as the Norse defeated Southern Indiana, 1-0, in Great
Lakes Valley Conference play.
The game winning play came on a Tony
Ray throw-in in the 106th minute. Ray's high, hard throw found
the head of Seth Eckerlin, who headed the ball home high to the
left side for just his second goal of the season.
The No. 1 ranked
Norse were marked by their defense once again, allowing just
eight shots to the Screaming Eagles while taking 22 of their own.
Michael Lavric made a career-high four saves as he earned his seventh
consecutive shutout in net.
A total of 55 fouls were committed in
a very physical game, with nine bookings issued between the two
teams.
Northern Kentucky (15-0, 10-0 GLVC) has already clinched
a spot in the GLVC tournament, and will look to secure
home-field advantage for the quarterfinal round Sunday as they
take on Kentucky Wesleyan. Sunday is also Senior Day, where the
nine NKU senior players will be honored during a pre-game ceremony.
