RENSSELAER, Ind. – The shutout streak for Northern Kentucky
University goalkeepers Andy Ortman and Michael Lavric came to an
end Sunday as the Norse defeated Saint Joseph’s College,
3-1, in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
The top-ranked
Norse (14-0 overall, 9-0 GLVC) picked up two goals early in the
action,
with Jason Larkin picking up an unassisted
tally in the seventh minute before junior Tony Ray scored his
sixth of the year with assists to Braden Bishop and Seth Eckerlin
in
the 19th.
More than 594 minutes of flawless defense by NKU ended
in the 24th minute when Tyler Kincaid cut the deficit to one
for the Pumas
on his team-leading seventh goal of the season. The 2-1 score
would hold through halftime.
Seth Eckerlin put the game away in the 62nd
minute with his first goal of the season off another Bishop pass
to make the 3-1 final.
NKU
goalkeeper Andy Ortman got the win in net after giving up just
his third goal of the season. He made one save as the NKU defense
once again shut the door on the opposition. The Norse outshot
the Pumas by a 23-6 margin.
With the win,
NKU became one of two teams to clinch a berth in the GLVC tournament
this weekend.
NKU returns home for its final regular-season
home games next weekend, as the Norse host Southern Indiana at
7:30 p.m. Friday and Kentucky
Wesleyan at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
