INDIANAPOLIS ¬ The defense was again the difference Friday night as the Northern Kentucky University men1s soccer team defeated Indianapolis, 1-0, in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

The Norse (13-0 overall, 8-0 GLVC) got on the board in the 14th minute off a well-executed free-kick play. Dan Impellizzeri sent a long cross to Chad Cook, who flicked ahead to Braden Bishop for his ninth goal of the season.

The NKU defense would lock down from that point and make the goal stick, holding the Indianapolis offense to just two shots in the second half, with none on goal. Indianapolis dropped to 9-3-2, 5-2-1 GLVC.

NKU goalkeeper Michael Lavric made two saves in the victory. The Norse were voted No. 1 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll earlier this week for the first time in history.

NKU will finish its road trip Sunday against Saint Joseph's.
