ST. LOUIS – The Northern Kentucky University men’s soccer team defeated Missouri-St. Louis, 2-0, in Great Lakes Valley Conference play Sunday afternoon.

Steven Beattie converted a penalty kick in the 15th minute to give the Norse, ranked No. 2 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll, the early one-goal lead. It was the freshman’s sixth goal of the season. Braden Bishop scored his team-leading seventh goal of the year in the 36th minute to put the game away, finishing off a Jason Larkin cross for the insurance marker.

The Norse (10-0, 5-0 GLVC) once again dominated the pace of play, outshooting the Tritons 15-5 in the contest. Andy Ortman started and recorded the win in net, making two saves for his 14th career shutout. Fouls were even in the contest, with each team whistled for nine infractions.

NKU returns home for a pair of GLVC games next weekend, beginning with a 7:30 p.m. Friday contest against defending GLVC champion Southern Illinois at Edwardsville. The Norse entertain Quincy on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
