ROLLA, Mo. - The Northern Kentucky University men's soccer team
defeated Missouri-Rolla, 3-0, Friday night to extend its season-opening
winning streak to nine games.
The Norse, ranked No. 2 nationally
in the NCAA Division II poll, tallied two goals off corner-kick
plays. Eric Ashworth put a header home in the 11th minute for his
first of the year, while Chad Cook found the back of the net six
minutes later.
Braden Bishop added his team-leading sixth goal
of the season in the 67th minute. Freshman goalkeeper Michael
Lavric made three saves while picking up his fourth career shutout.
NKU (9-0, 4-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference)
concludes the weekend road trip Sunday at Missouri-St. Louis.
The Norse return home next Friday night to face defending GLVC
champion Southern Illinois at Edwardsville.
NKU
and SIUE played to a 1-1 tie in the regular season last fall,
but the Norse later captured the NCAA II Great Lakes Region championship
by posting a 3-2 overtime win over the Cougars. BOX
