WILDER, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University men’s
soccer team shut down the Bellarmine offense during a 1-0 victory
Sunday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
Steven Beattie
put the Norse (8-0, 3-0 GLVC) on the board in the 12th minute
with his fifth goal of the season. After a crossing pass into the
18-yard-box, the Knight defense attempted to clear the ball out
of the zone. The ball, however, landed near Beattie’s right
foot, and he blasted a shot to the right post for the only score
of the game.
The goal was
Beattie’s
fourth goal of the weekend after recording a hat trick Friday
night against Ashland.
The NKU
defense dominated and allowed just three shot attempts in the contest.
Goalkeeper Michael Lavric made two saves to get the win in net.
NKU
attempted 27 shots on the Bellarmine net, with goalkeeper Justin
Welply, last week’s GLVC player of the week, making 13 saves
while allowing the game’s only goal.
NKU, ranked No. 2 in
the latest NCAA Division II national poll, will go west next
weekend to face Missouri-Rolla (Friday) and Missouri-St. Louis
(Sunday). BOX
