WILDER, Ky. – Jason Larkin scored his first goal of the
year Sunday as the Northern Kentucky University men’s soccer
team survived its second consecutive top 25 challenge, defeating
No. 12 Wisconsin-Parkside, 1-0, in Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Larkin’s
goal was created by a long pass from Alex Allison on the defense.
Braden Bishop fielded the pass and flicked across to Tony Capurro,
who
tapped the ball across to streaking Larkin on the left side.
Larkin,
a senior and a graduate of Oak Hills High School, fired a shot
high from about 25 yards away and put it just outside the
reach of Wisconsin-Parkside goalkeeper Victor Perez to net the
game’s only goal.
NKU managed 12 shots against the Wisconsin-Parkside
defense, while the Rangers sent seven shots at the Norse goal.
Michael Lavric
notched his second consecutive shutout in net for the Norse and
ran his record to 3-0 with two saves. Perez made six saves in
defeat for the Rangers.
NKU also knocked off No. 16 Lewis, 1-0,
on Friday night. The Norse are ranked No. 3 nationally in the
NCAA Division II poll.
NKU (6-0, 2-0 GLVC) plays host to Ashland
in a non-conference game Friday at 7 p.m.
