FINDLAY, Ohio – The members of the Northern Kentucky University
men’s soccer team used their heads during a 4-1 victory over
Findlay in non-conference action Friday afternoon.
Junior Tony Ray
began the scoring in the 14th minute for the Norse (3-0). Tony
Capurro sent a pass into the 18-yard box, where Ray
sent a header shot into the back of the net for his first goal
of the season.
Sophomore Braden Bishop extended his goal-scoring
streak to six games over two seasons at the 30-minute mark by taking
a Steven
Beattie pass off the head and into the twine. Bishop struck again
in the 51st, picking up an errant pass from the Findlay defense
and depositing it into the goal for his fifth goal of the season.
Ray
had an instant replay of his earlier goal in the 56th minute, scoring
off another Capurro assist to give the Norse a four-goal
lead.
Findlay’s Brennan Williams spoiled Andy Ortman’s
shutout bid in the 83rd minute, scoring an unassisted tally to
make the
4-1 final. Ortman got the win, making three saves along the way.
NKU, ranked No. 5 nationally in Division II, travels to face
Tiffin on Sunday.
