WILDER, Ky. – A penalty kick from Braden Bishop was all
the Northern Kentucky University men’s soccer team needed
to defeat Truman State, 1-0, Sunday afternoon in the John Toebben
Classic presented by National City.
Truman State’s
Ben Green was whistled for a shove in the back against Steven
Beattie while in the 18-yard box in the 84th minute.
After Green was booked for a yellow card, Bishop lined up and sent
his penalty kick low to the right side past the Bulldogs’ Kyle
Talbot for his third goal of the year.
On the same play, Truman
State’s Josh Weir was assessed a
red card and ejected from the match, forcing the Bulldogs to play
the final six minutes of the contest one man short. The mismatch
was too much for Truman State to overcome as the Norse took the
result.
NKU goalkeeper Andy Ortman earned his 13th career shutout in
net, making two saves in the victory.
NKU (2-0), ranked No. 8 nationally in the Division II poll, takes
to the road Friday to face region foe Findlay.
