-----Tony Capurro scores against SJC

WILDER, Ky. - Tony Capurro and Chad Cook each scored goals as the Northern Kentucky University men’s soccer team posted a 2-1 win over Saint Joseph’s on Sunday at the Town & Country Sports Complex.

NKU gained an early 1-0 lead when Tony Ray played the ball into the box, and Capurro finished off the cross with a shot past Saint Joseph’s goalie Dan Ford. The Norse took the 1-0 lead into halftime and owned a 9-4 edge in shots at the break.

Cook extended NKU’s advantage to 2-0 six minutes into the second half with a goal off a give-and-go play that was set up by passes from Capurro and Jason Larkin. Cook finished the play by finding the back of the net in the right post with his second goal of the season.

Saint Joseph’s cut the NKU lead to 2-1 at the 60:27 mark when John Grigorakis’ 8-yard shot went through Norse goalie Andy Ortman’s legs into the net. The NKU defense, however, held Saint Joseph’s scoreless the remainder of the game.

NKU improved to 3-1 overall, 1-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Saint Joseph’s dropped to 0-3-1 overall, 0-2 in the GLVC.

A year ago, NKU and Saint Joseph's played to a scoreless tie at Rensselaer, Ind.

NKU plays its first road game of the year Friday with a GLVC contest at Quincy.
