HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University men’s soccer team has earned a berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament, and the Norse will meet Wisconsin-Parkside at 5 p.m. (EST) Thursday in the opening round of the Great Lakes Regional at Edwardsville, Ill.

NKU, which is making its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament, owns a 14-2-3 record. The Norse are the No. 2 seed, while Wisconsin-Parkside (13-3-4) is the No. 3 seed.

Southern Illinois at Edwardsville (14-3-3) is the top seed and host for the Great Lakes Regional. The Cougars meet fourth-seeded Mercyhurst (Pa.) in other first-round contest Thursday night.

NKU met Wisconsin-Parkside and played to a scoreless tie in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament last week, but the Rangers advanced on penalty kicks, 6-5.

The championship game is set for 8 p.m. (EST) Saturday.

NKU's 14 wins are the most since the 1996 season, when the Norse finished 14-5-1. The most victories in NKU history is 16, set in 1995.

Norse junior goalie Andy Ortman has posted 11 shutouts. NKU freshman Braden Bishop leads the team with nine goals. Bishop was also named GLVC Freshman of the Year.
