HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University men’s soccer team will meet Wisconsin-Parkside at 6 p.m. (EST) Friday in the semifinals of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament at Edwardsville, Ill.

NKU, the No. 2 seed, enters Friday with a 14-2-2 record and is ranked 14th nationally in the Division II poll. Wisconsin-Parkside (13-2-3) is the No. 3 seed and is ranked 18th nationally.

NKU has beaten Wisconsin-Parkside two straight times, including a 2-1 win over the Rangers in last season’s GLVC Tournament. Earlier this year, NKU posted a 1-0 win at Wisconsin-Parkside.

Southern Illinois at Edwardsville (12-3-3) is the top seed and host for the GLVC Tournament. The Cougars meet fifth-seeded Lewis in other semifinal contest Friday.

The championship game is set for 2 p.m. Sunday. Pairings for the NCAA Division II Tournament will be announced Sunday, and NKU is expecting to receive its first-ever berth in that event.

NKU is seeking its first GLVC Tournament championship since 1995. The Norse have won a total of four GLVC titles (1987, ’92, '93 and ’95).

NKU's 14 wins are the most since the 1996 season, when the Norse finished 14-5-1. The most victories in NKU history is 16, set in 1995.

NKU owns the GLVC’s stingiest defense, having allowed just nine goals in 18 games. Norse goalie Andy Ortman has posted 10 shutouts and owns a 0.45 goals against average.

Norse freshman Braden Bishop leads the team with nine goals. Bishop was also named GLVC Freshman of the Year.

Chris Thompson scored a goal and assisted two others last Sunday as NKU rolled to a 3-0 win over Indianapolis in the first round of the GLVC Tournament at Wilder, Ky.
