OWENSBORO, Ky.
- Northern Kentucky University wrapped up the No. 2 seed in the
Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament with a 2-0 victory over
Kentucky Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon.
Mirza Causevic
netted a pair of second-half goals to lead NKU, which improved to
12-2-2 overall, 9-2-2 in the GLVC. Causevic's first goal came at
the 56:29 mark, and he sealed the Norse victory four minutes later
with his second tally of the day.
NKU goalie Andy
Ortman picked up his ninth shutout of the season and had four saves.
The Norse, ranked 16th nationally in the NCAA Division II poll,
extended their unbeaten streak to nine and are 8-0-1 during that
stretch.
NKU earned the
No. 2 seed in the GLVC Tournament, which begins Oct. 22. The Norse
will play host to No. 7 seed Indianapolis at the Town & Country
Sports Complex in the first round next Sunday.
The semifinals
and championship will be played Oct. 27-29 at the site of the highest
remaining seed in the eight-team field. Southern Illinois at Edwardsville
is the No. 1 seed for the GLVC Tournament.
NKU will close
out the regular season Wednesday with a 4 p.m. home game against
Findlay. The Norse need four wins to tie the school record for most
wins (16) in a season, which was set by the 1995 team.
